Stampede | May 2020

Welcome to the Mama Elephant Design Team blog hop!

Our newest release is now live and available for purchase in the store!

Ever since the first Zodiac stamp I knew I want to try them out on Shrink plastic – and I’ve finally found my shrink plastic in my office, so it became this cute planner clip/charm with the Zodiac Dogs.

I started by stamping the Zodiac Dogs on my shrink plastic with some Staz On ink – Remember to clean your stamps very well, as the Staz On ink can be annoying. I also cut out two hearts using the smaller heart from Sugar Cookies dies.
Then I colored them in with my colored pencils – remember the colors get darker when you shrink them, so my coloring was very light.
Since I did not want holes in the heads of my doggies, I punched out a ¼ inch hole just above their heads and cut them out with a pair of scissors. Remember to make your holes before you shrink the plastic, as it will become much harder later.

Then I baked them as the instructions on the shrink plastic said – remember to read the instructions to find out how to use your specific brand. If you want to protect the coloring a bit, you could add a layer of mod podge on top after baking.

To tie together my little charm, I used some waxed cotton string, crimp beads and a cute paper clip, however you could do the little bead chains, keyrings, directly on your planner rings or maybe even as a jewelry charm.

  1. So cute and great idea. Did you know you can use your heat gun instead of oven to shrink it? It’s super fast. I’m going to get my Shrink Dink and make some.

  2. Oh my goodness, these are adorable. Would have never thought about using the shrink wrap to make charms. I will have to remember this idea for sure.

  3. Such a great project! I haven’t used shrink plastic since my kids were little! Will have to give it a try again!

  4. What a cute idea! I am going to have to pull my shrink plastic out again! I’m also liking that peek of your planner. It looks like an idea book for all of your creations! Would you be willing to post about it?

    1. Thanks! It is indeed an idea book / social media planner. I suppose I could make some instagram posts about it – but I am quite busy these days, so can’t promise when it’ll be.
I’ll try to remember to tag you though!

  5. Oh my Gosh… SHRINKY DINKS, I haven’t thought of or seen these for years, but I love it. And the new stamps are so cute. ME will always be my all time fav brand!

  8. Fantastic idea. I’ve been wanting to do
something with the shrink art but never
had stamps that really worked. These
are just the right size and so cute.
See lots of gifts being given out soon.
    thanks for sharing.

  9. I love this idea! I didn’t realise the stamps would be big enough to do this with – I’m going to try it!

  10. I am totally loving this posts of creating the bookmark.. This is so cool. And I could really change as per the theme or my mood reading the book or writing a journal.. Love this..
